Mr. Hornblower. Otherwise, just to smoke me pipe and sit with the men,
tellin stories and singing songs.

Truth be told, I'm not much of a reader, a bit of the bible maybe. My
lady Moll writes me sometimes, though, an I like to read that

When my mates and me return from an adventure together, our job done.

Like when we lost Finch, not even in battle. Was terrible bad seein' him
starve to death.
But I guess, it was worse when we's on Justinian, an you just knew none
of the officers gave a damn about us. That was the worst, t'know yer not
a man, not even as important as a gun to folks who control yer life

I always wonder if we'll be seeing any battle, or just sailing around.
Been a might boring of late.

Exciting, but ye gots to keep your head on right and not let the
excitement get ye, or it'll be the last battle ye ever see.

My Moll's apple pie...Lord, it's been a while since I had one of those.

I had ice cream once, vanilla it was...when I was a boy. Never forgot
it, so I guess vanilla it is.

It's always a bit cooler during a storm. And scary too, if it's a bad
one!

Rum's me poison. Never did care much for that grog stuff we're stuck
with so often.

I think every ship should be like this one. I do! No men like Foster
running around getting his ship an men blowed up, and nobody like that
gasbag Hammond either, beatin up on boys for sport. And definately no
officers like that bastard Simpson.

I wish I had more schooling as a boy, then mebbe I coulda been an officer
meself. Wouldna want to be Captain, but mebbe a Master like Mr. Bowles.

I confess, I do love me Moll, though I don't admit it to Styles. He
still fancies 'imself a ladies man, but truth be told, back there in
Portsmouth one lady with alot o sass caught his eye...

It isn't never full enough for us bellow decks, I can tell you. Not what
Captain Pellew doesn't do his best about it.

Anxiety? Is that like worries? I worries sometimes, I do, that Mr.
Hornblower will get hisself killed afore he can become an admiral and
make the Navy better for the likes of us.

That we get a good amount of prize money, and I can go home to my Moll
and mebbe buy her a little something.

To be maimed an unable to keep me job, and end up a beggar in Portsmouth

I used to be angry cause the officers thought I was just a stupid seaman
who didn't really know anything. But I don't feel that way anymore. So
I guess there's nothin more to know about me.

I wonder what the Captain would say? Nah, I suppose he'd be too

But then, I did see him throwin' snowballs at Mr. Hornblower once...so
mebbe he would!
