All About the Indefatigable
by Sue N.

NAME: His Britannic Majesty's frigate Indefatigable

LIVING ARRANGEMENT: I roam the seas at will, going wherever a good wind
and an easy touch at the wheel takes me

FAVORITE PASTIME: Impressing upon the Frogs and the Dons that there is no
pow'r on earth that can withstand the might of the British Navy!!

FAVORITE BOOK: Eh, captain's log? (I'm mentioned frequently, you know)

THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: Dancing over the waves with a fair sea
and a good wind in just the right quarter, knowing I carry the finest crew
in His Majesty's Navy, and certain the finest frigate captain ever born
walks my quarter-deck.

THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: Cannon balls plowing into my beams are
pretty bad, but the worst is carrying the weight of sorrow when good men
have died upon my decks, and the horror of feeling English blood seeping
into my planks.

FAVORITE SMELLS: The smell of food cooking in my galley -- means the men
will eat; the smell of cigars in the captain's cabin -- means he's content
and all is well; the smell of pipes on me decks -- means the crew is
happy; the smell of gunpowder -- means we've taught the Frogs or Dons
another lesson; and the smell of mop water on a clear day -- means the men
are cleaning me again and caring for me as I do for them.

BATTLE: SCARY OR EXCITING: Again, I'm not too keen on those cannon balls,
but I am a British frigate, and there is no ship I fear. Let the battle
come -- with this captain and crew, I know we will prevail!

FAVORITE FOODS: Hm, don't eat much, but the men seem to prefer beef.

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA: Don't care for either -- sticky stuff on me planks,
yech!

STORMS, COOL OR SCARY: Oh, I don't care at all for 'em! Lost too many
spars, had too many sails ripped away, and don't like the lightning (well,
would you if you were made of wood, canvas and rope? Fire, y'know --
dreadful bad!)

FAVORITE DRINK: Had so much spilled on me, I'd have t' say rum. Gives a
nice, mellowing feel to me timbers.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE: The amount
of blood I've had spilled on me decks, the numbers of men I've had slid,
over me side, into the sea, dead. Too many of 'em, too young. And the way
the captain and his men carry themselves after the burials -- a good ship
feels the sorrow and hurts of her crew, y'know. Sometimes, that soft sound
of the "wind" in the rigging is actually the ship crying...

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE: I'd only
wish to be better able to serve Captain Pellew and his men. They deserve
the best, and if I am not, then I certainly wish to be.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE: I am in love with the wind, with the sea, and
with this captain and crew. And they, I believe, love me as well.

IS THE GLASS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL: Don't have a glass. But the sea
seems full enough, and I am happy.

WHAT'S IN YOUR ANXIETY CLOSET: Cannon balls, lightning, fire.

WHAT'S YOUR LOFTIEST DREAM: To be known as the finest ship in the Navy.

WHAT'S YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE: To fail in some way the fine men I carry.

WHAT DO YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU FEEL THEY DON'T: That I
know these men, that I love them, and that I know what a priceless
treasure I carry, in lives and hopes and dreams. And how proud, how very
proud, I am to be known as "Pellew's ship."

WHAT OTHER HH CHARACTER WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ANSWER THIS QUESTIONNAIRE:
That blackguard Foster's ship, Dreadnaught. Ha! But she won't. She knows
her strutting peacock of a captain could never compare to Pellew, and her
crew isn't half as good as the one I carry!
